Going with an abridged edition this week as I'm working on a few other things. But here are some highlights from the playlist, which features contributions from OFNL frequent fly-guys Tyler B. and Tim L.:

• Up-and-coming neo-soul rapper Smino does it with a J.Cole feature

Arlie brags about getting off the internet with the help of a landline phone and, honestly, I respect his life choices. Who doesn't dream of living smartphone-free one day?

• Is this what church music would sound like if the church was run by a bunch of indie-heads who occasionally and responsibly enjoyed psychedelics? El Ten Eleven makes a strong case here for returning to regular Sunday sessions. Minus all the gay-bashing, woman-trashing, and diddler-dashing (watch Spotlight first then tell me I'm out of line for writing that alliteration).

Fleetwood Mac rightfully makes their way into rotation. This band has hits and deep cuts in spades. I've always wanted to become more steeped in the Mac. Maybe this is the year, maybe.

• An interlude song from Donovan, England's answer to Dylan. Note to fellow campfire, four-chord strummin' guitarists: this one is capo 3 and basically 2 chords. Learn it to add something brooding to your repertoire. Mine needed no such additional brood. But I couldn't resist.

• And Kadhja Bonet rounds us out with some mellow but hype gospel funk.

<===>Massachusetts instituted a requirement for bike lanes/pedestrian infrastructure any time a road gets rebuilt. Basically, the state department of transportation withholds funding from local towns who do not follow its "guides" on creating bike/ped-friendly streets.

Money talks and towns aren't about to rip away from the Commonwealth's teat. So it ends up being a boring but important way to get good infrastructure built without the usual opposition to bike lanes and sidewalks you'll see when they're proposed standing alone. Also, cars degrade roads so effectively that it will be a fast way to achieve safe street objectives, even if it appears on the surface as a more "passive" measure. All states should follow this lead.
